Grilled Halloumi Cheese

Grilled Halloumi Cheese is my alternative to the flaming “Saganaki”.  Originating from the Island of Cyprus, it is made from a mixture of goat and sheep milk. I love this recipe not only because it is really tasty but because it is also very easy to make!

Servings 2 people

Ingredients

  • 1 16 oz. package Halloumi cheese
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • dash oregano
  • 2 slices Pita bread grilled

Instructions

  • Cut the Halloumi in slices about 1/8 of an inch thick. In a medium size skillet pour enough olive oil to thinly cover the bottom. Place cheese in pan cook both sides on medium heat until the cheese turns a nice golden color. Remove and sprinkle some oregano and squeeze some fresh lemon.

Notes

What I love about Halloumi Cheese is that it is not too buttery, therefore it keeps its consistency when heated but at the same time it is not too hard which makes it easy to melt. Believe me, it is just the perfect combination!
If you want you can accompany the cheese with grilled pita bread.     Enjoy
