The Amazing Site of Olympia, where the Olympic Dream Was Born

Somewhere in the western Peloponnese in the so called “valley of the gods” you will be taken back in time to the birthplace of the Olympic Games.  The first games started in 776 BC and made Olympia a unique universal symbol of peace, noble competition, and values which remain unchanged to our days. It is said that all Greeks across the world would unite every 4 years to partake in these games. It was a time of peace as during this event all wars and hostilities would cease.

What do to in Olympia:

Relive the essence of the ancient Olympic Games – Today, one can admire the vestiges of several sporting structures erected for the Games such as the famous stadium, the “Crypt” which is the arched entry to the stadium, the Hippodrome and more.

If you can, partake in the lighting of the Olympic flame ceremony which still takes place to this day a few months ahead of each Olympiad. Planning your trip around this event, would be a one in a lifetime experience.

Stroll through the Archeological site dating back to the 10th century B.C. which is classified a UNESCO World heritage protected. Awe at the remains of numerous sanctuaries and temples including the Philippeion, Bouleyterion the Temple of Hera and more. Great artists such as Pheidias, have put their personal stamp of inspiration and creativity on some of the most magnificent works of art offering their unique artistic creations to the world.

Tour the Archaeological Museum of Olympia and marvel at the craftsmanship of famed statues such as the Hermes by Praxiteles, the statue of Nike (Victory) by Paionios as well as sculptures that used to decorate the Temple of Zeus to name a few.
